ModernMT provides new Translation Engine to Airbnb's UGC at Scale

ROME, November 21th 2021

Thanks to Translated’s closest-to-human machine translation deployed by ModernMT, Airbnb is allowing users to automatically read translations of listing descriptions and reviews in more than 60 languages, without having to click a translate button, no matter the original language.

This represents a milestone in the translation industry that validates how the technology is now robust to the point that leading companies rely on it with full confidence. For the first time in history, in fact, AI is used to provide, by default, a massive amount of content to a large audience. Many consider the collaboration between Translated and Airbnb the largest contract in the language industry ever.

ModernMT has been working on the perfect symbiosis between humans and machines for years, taking inspiration from the human brain not just for its neural structure but for its incredible capacity to adapt and learn from new experiences. Like a human, truly, it improves from corrections and adapts to the context of the document.

According to a study commissioned by a top machine translation evaluation company (source), the translations provided by ModernMT allow Airbnb to improve the perceived quality of more than 99% of Airbnb listings.

Translated has already provided Airbnb with professional translations covering the entire suite, employing specialist professionals supported by AI-powered tools. Only humans are capable of grasping the nuances of every language and culture.

The deal with Airbnb represents a further step in scaling Translated’s solutions to allow everyone to understand and be understood in their own language, a mission shared by Ardian, which recently invested 25 million dollars in the company.
